One Killed in Army Firing

A person has died when Nepal Army personnel deputed for the security of the Chitwan National Park (CNP) opened fire at him on February 6.

 

According to the district police office, Ramesh Praja, 40, of Piple2 was shot at the confluence of Rapti River and Lothar River.

 

Chief protection officer of CNP Jhamak Karki said that the army men opened fire after a team of five wood smugglers attacked them with stones and tried to escape when they tried to stop them. He said that the deceased's body had been handed over to the police. Ram Krishna Chepang of Piple2 has been arrested while the others are absconding, CNP said.

 

Meanwhile, a team, including CDO of Chitwan Ganesh Raj Karki has visited the incident site for investigation.
