Woman files police case against spouse for miscarriage

BAJHANG, Dec 4: A woman in this remote district has registered a police complaint against her abusive husband, blaming him responsible for her miscarriage. Karuna Kumari Thapa, 18, a resident of Patadeval VDC-5, blamed her husband Dipak Khadka, 23, of foeticide and demanded action against him. Thapa recently suffered a miscarriage after five month´s pregnancy. Thapa claimed that miscarriage was the result of merciless beating she received at the hands of her husband. According to Thapa, she had fallen in love with Khadka and had married him two years ago. But her husband started torturing her physically as well as mentally, labeling various false allegations on her. “He started thrashing me mercilessly for no reason. He even threatened to kill the child I was carrying. I would fainted from the beating recently, he trampled on my belly so as to kill the child,” said Thapa. “I have registered complained a complaint with the police as well as with the Women And Children Office in the district, demanding the action against him,” she added. Thapa also said that she has been living under a constant fear that her husband would attack her any time. Devaki Malla, vice chair of Women Right Forum, demanded action against anyone involved in such heinous crime. “The perpetrator of such crime should be punished immediately. And we will raise our voice to bring the criminal to book,” Malla said. The incident has taken place while the country is observing 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. Informing that they have already received a post-mortem report of the fetus, Police Inspector Gyan Bahadur Bista added that they have already launched a manhunt to track down Khadka, and that he would be charged with homicide. Khadka is a Bachelor´s degree student of Commerce at Mahendranagar while Thapa, his spouse, is also pursuing Bachelor´s degree in Education in Bajhang.
