Chitawan Secondary School accused of forbidding a disabled teacher from checking in

2019-11-17

Bagmati, Chitawan, Bharatpur

The school administration of Chitwan Secondary school forbid Durga Bomjon, a 32-year-old physically disabled teacher, from signing in the school even after 12 days of appointment in the school.  Bomjon passed the competitive exam of the Teacher Service Commission for the position of the teacher.

Then he reached the Education Branch and Education Coordination Unit of Bharatpur Municipality, but to no avail.  The appointment letter is void if not present within 15 days of receiving the appointment letter at the designated school. The school management committee, however, said that the school denied Bomjon's sign in since the school was not disable-friendly.

'We didn't say that he would be denied signing in. None of the buildings in the school are  disable-friendly. We have not done discriminated against Durga for his physical condition,” Diliram Lamichhane, chairman of the school management committee, said.

MK Jwala, a member of the Working Committee of the Disabled Society Chitwan, said that the stakeholders should be aware of this incident. Bomjan uses a wheelchair and can't move without an assistant. She has been living with her family in Narayani Secondary School of Bharatpur.
