Businessman Shot Dead, Two Policemen Injured

Bara,vyapaariko goli prahar gari hatya, asai sahit 2 jana ghaite. Businessman Aftab Alam, 40, of Bhawanipur in Jitpur VDC-3 has been shot dead on January 1. Two motorcycle-borne persons opened firing at Alam while he was in front of his house. According to DSP Nabaraj Adhikiri, Alam was succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Birgunj-based National Hospital. Meanwhile, two policemen have been injured when the assailants opened firing at the police team chasing them. Police had chased the assailants up to 2 kilometer. ASI Matrika Thakur and Constable Shekh Sabjan were injured in the shooting. ASI Thakur sustained three bullet injuries in abdomen and hand. Shekh has bullet injury in his hand. The injured have been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment following primary treatment at National Medical. DSP Adhikari said that investigation was ongoing into the incident. The two assailants, Indian nationals have been arrested with local's help. Police recovered two pistols, 15 rounds of bullets, motorcycle (BR 068517) used in the incident from them. They were arrested from a sugarcane field in Phattepur VDC-5. Those arrested are Rabi Pandey of Lukhnow and Bipeen Yadav of Banaras, India. They are kept in the District Police Office Kalaiya.
