Action Demanded Against Policeman Who Assaulted WHRD

The district-based human rights defenders have issued a statement on January 6 demanding action against the policeman who beat up Gyanu Dulal, 35, a member of Women Human Rights Defenders Network, Panchthar. She was assaulted at District Police Office on January 5 when she went there to inquire about her son’s arrest, Dulal claimed. She is currently getting treatment at Pathibhara Medical in Phidim Bazar for ear injury. Joint Women Rights Network, Women Human Rights Defenders Network, Domestic Violence Reduction Network, HUCODEC Nepal, PYAG and Siddhapokhari Sewa Sadan jointly issued the statement demanding also for her treatment expenses. “The misbehavior by the policemen on duty is deeply regrettable”, the statement read. When asked, Inspector Rakesh Thapa that there was just verbal exchanges when she scolded policemen adding her son Roshan Subedi, 20, was arrested in connection with the clash with local youths.
