Journalists Mistreated by CIAA Chief

Chief of Commission for Investigation on Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lok Man Singh Karki has mistreated with the journalists as a press conference in Biratnagar on January 12. The incident occurred when a journalist asked about smuggling of betel nut being wide spread after he assumed the position. The question angered Karki leading him to hurl insolent words to the journalists prompting the journalists to boycott the program. After leaving the site, they held a sit-in in front of District Police Office demanding apology from Karki. Police detained over 15 journalists for their strike and held for three hours at Morang district police office. The detained journalists included FNJ Morang chairperson Bikram Niraula, members Gokul Parajuli, Bikram Luintel, Dharmaraj Dhakal, Kishor Budhathoki, Ajit Tiwari, Bibek Gautam and Kumod Adhikari among others. The journalists called off their sit-in after Chief District Officer of Morang, Ganesh Raj Karki, and SP Bishwo Raj Pokharel apologized for Karkis' misbehavior. Dharma Raj Dhakal and Kishor Budhathoki were injured and were treated at Koshi Zonal Hospital, Press Chautari informed. Meanwhile, FNJ Morang, Press Chautari and Press Union among other media related organisations, have condemned CIAA Chief Karki's behavior to journalists. CIAA has also issued a statement accusing the journalists of misbehavior to CIAA.
