Nagendra Upreti, 41, of Kurintar in Darechok VDC-3 and currently living in Pithuwa VDC-2 has been barred by his relatives from conducting final rites of his father for marrying a woman outside his caste. Upreti filed a complaint of caste-based discrimination against his uncle Ramchandra Silwal, 45, and his brother Rudra Prasad Upreti, 33, of Kurintar at District Police Office on January 24. Upreti said that he was disowned by the family after he got married to Thal Kumari Pariyar of Pithuwa VDC on December 21, 1996. He said that his relatives stopped him from meeting his father when he was on deathbed and that he was informed of the father death that happened on January 8. He added that when he went to Kurintar to conduct final rites he was stopped citing his alliance with a dalit woman. Nagendra said that after he was forced out of the village, he went back to Pithuwa and conducted the final rites.
