Five Sentenced to Life for Murder of UML Leader

The district court in Okhaldhunga has sentenced five persons to life imprisonment for killing UML national representative council member Chhabilal Kakri. Hearing the case on February 6, Judge Subha Babu Puri convicted them of murder. According to Shrestedar at district court Dhan Bahadur Karki, UML cadres Yadunath Ghimire alias Adig of Pokhare VDC, Tikaram Bhujel of Diyale VDC-9, Bimarsha Raj Ghimire alias Dhundiraj of Pokhare VDC, Nabaraj Basnet of Taluwa VDC and Chandra Bahadur Karki were sentenced to life imprisonment. Chandra Bahadur is brother of the deceased Chhabilal. Likewise, Dev Bahadur Katuwal, Dil Bahadur Sarki of Thhulachap VDC and Lal Bahadur Bhujel of Bhadaure VDC have been sentenced to three years in prison. Earlier, they were attending dates in the case. Meanwhile, cases regarding seven others, including UCPN-M cadres Baburam Subedi, Dipak Katuwal Tara CK, who are absconding in the same case have been adjourned. Advocate Nanibabu Budathoki, who argued on behalf of the plaintiff, said that the justice had been delivered to the victims. UML leader Karki was killed by UCPN-M cadres on July 8, 2010. They had attacked him with iron rods and baton when he was taking food in a local hotel in Nishankhe, Thulachhap.
