A complaint has been registered against Principal of Shree Madhyamik School Mahuliya Kishore Sah on February 8 on charge of barring a dalit student of performing pooja.
Inspector Hari Nandan Chaudhary of the District Police Office said that said that not allowing someone to perform pooja at public place was an act against Caste-based Discrimination and Untouchability (Crime and Punishment) Act 2011. The DPO said that the accused would be brought to justice.
Phiran Mahara, 16, of Parchheba VDC-7 was barred to sit in the Saraswati pooja being held in the school. According to Mahara, a 10th grader at the school, he was barred as he belonged to a dalit community.
The student who comes first in the examinations is selected to observe the pooja by the school. However, when the first boy Rajib Kumar Thakure refused to observe the pooja as he follows Christianity, Mahara who ranks second in the class was selected by the pooja committee.
