Police have beaten up five people of a family of Haraiya VDC-3 on February 28 for 'not obeying the instruction'.
ASI Khagendra Mahato and Head Constable Nabaraj Neupane of Madhuban Police Station beat them with bamboo splits, the victims said. Srichan Paswan, 45, his son Ramdhyan Paswan, 25, nephew Sunny Paswan, 26, along with others were beaten up.
The injured have returned home after treatment at Kalaiya Hospital. Among the injured, Shrichan and Sunny have injuries on the back, palm and hip. Sunny's bone on palm has broken.
Ramdhyan said that the police tried to beat up his aunt during a discussion with the locals. and when they tried to save her, then the police got angry and began assaulting them. Later on, the police themselves took us to the hospital for treatment.
ASI Mahato said that they had to use minor force when the villagers just would not listen to them. "I told them to remain peaceful but they became aggressive so I did use some force in a fit of anger', Mahato said.
Another villager, Ramud Paswan of Haraiya VDC-3 accused Mahato of injuring him a week ago in relation to a domestic violence issue.
