Court Slaps Rapists with 3-year Imprisonment

Saptari,Balatkari laai 3 barsha kaaid. The District Court in Saptari has sentenced two rapists to 3-years in jail on March 5. Deciding on a case of rape of a 15-year-old girl, the court slapped 3-years imprisonment each to Ramesh Yadav, 28, and Kamal Yadav, 19, of Maleth VDC-4 and has also decided to extract half of the property share of each convicts to be provided to the victim. District Judge Tej Narayan Paudel issued the verdict to this effect. The victim was raped while she had gone to collect leaves of trees near a river in Jamuni Madhepura VDC-8 on January 19, 2006. Section Officer at the court Gopal Giri said that the case which was put on hold as the accused were absconding after the incident was decided as they were not found. A complaint was filed at the District Police Office on January 22, 2006 against the accused. Likewise, the District Court also sentenced Surendra Prasad Sah, 30, of Itahari Bishnupur VDC-3 and a permanent residet of Madhubani, India with 10-years imprisonment for raping an 8-year-old. District Judge Tej Narayan Paudel issued the verdict on March 5 and also decided to extract Rs 50,000 from the convict to be provided to the victim. A rape complaint was filed against Sah on April 20, 2007 on charge of raping the girl on April 16, 2007.
