Madhav Prasad Ghimire, 38, secretary of Namadi VDC was beaten by Kaji Bahadur Khadka, a resident of ward no 5 of same VDC on February 15.

Khadka, a NC cadre beat up secretary Ghimire when the latter was about to drink tea in a hotel at Sanghutar of Khimti Bazaar. Khadka forcefully took Ghimire out the hotel and beat him, the victim said. Ghimire suffered injuries to his nose and face. According to the victim, he was attacked when he had been heading to Namadi from Manthali to attend a review program of the VDC.

Following attack, the accused had fled on his bike and threatened the victim to kill him over phone. The victim is undergoing treatment in Manthali. The victim said that the accused had tried to push him to Khimti river during the attack, however, locals prevented him.

According to the victim, Khadka had endorsed a project of conducting sports program with the fund of Rs. 25, 000 with VDC in the fiscal 067/68 and he had taken Rs. 20, 000 in advance for the project. Khadka had demanded to provide remaining fund with the VDC. However, he was told that the remaining fund will be provided after VDC project review meeting as the project was not completed.  Secretary Ghimire alleged that Khadka attacked him as the demanded money was not provided to him immediately.

Meanwhile, various organizations including VDC Secretary Rights Protection Centre, Nepal National Government Employees Federation, Nepal Government Employees Association, Nepal Government Employees Union among others, in a joint press release, condemned the incident, demanded action against the accused and guaranteeing security of all civil servants today.
