LALITPUR, MAR 20 - Lalitpur area has become tense on Thursday after the locals hit the streets to protest against the death of taxi driver Ravi Maharjan in police custody.
Maharjan, 23, died in police custody at Metropolitan Police Circle, Chapagaun, on Wednesday. His relatives and taxi drivers have been staging demonstration outside Chapagaun police office in protest against what they say police atrocities. The agitating relatives and drivers have been claiming that Maharjan died due to torture inflicted on him in police custody.
The protestors have halted the traffic movement on the way to Chapagaun from Satdobato blocking the road at several places. Police had arrested Maharjan two weeks ago on the charge of possessing marijuana. It has been learnt that Maharjan suffered a heart attack in police custody and died on his way to Patan hospital for treatment.
