Teachers Receive Death Threats

Ram Kumar Shrestha, head teacher of Barbanjyang Primary School and Sachana Rajbhandari, teacher of the school have received death threats from District Sports Development Committee chairperson and UCPN-M district member Bholendra Baniya.

"Baniya has issued death threats to head teacher Shrestha and me blaming us for our involvement in financial irregularities in the school," teacher Rajbhandari said on November 16. She said that Baniya had sent a gang of six persons during a meeting of the school management held in the school recently and the gang tried to manhandle them in the school.

When asked about the incident, District Education Officer, Sukdev Sapkota said that he has urged both sides to settle the issue in local level.

Denying issuance of any threat to the teachers, Baniya said that he had only asked them to give him information about financial status of the school's transaction, however, they exaggerated the issue unnecessarily.
