Journo Receives Death Threat

Bhim Kumar Banskota, 24 of Siddin9, a journalist, has received death threat on February 15.

 

Blaming that Chandra Bahadur Angbo (Limbu), 42 and Shakti Limbu Angbo, 48 among others of same locality threatened him, Banskota has filed a complaint at District Police Office on February 16.

 

The accused had threatened to kill Sapkota within few days saying that rights cannot be entertained in rural areas, states the complaint. Banskota, who is affiliated with Sagarmatha TV, Pratidin Daily and district correspondent of Taplejung FM, blamed that the accused had vandalized his house by picketing it for two days starting from February 14. Police had reached his house after the gang led by the accused had vandalized his house. Police could not control the vandalism on the first day, however, the gang stopped vandalizing the house when additional numbers of police personnel reached the incident site on February 15, the victim said.

 

"Though we have not purchased land from anybody, the attackers picketed our house blaming that we had purchased land from Limbu people,} Prem Banskota, 70, Bhim's father said. Saying that Banskota families are few in numbers in the village, he said that two Banskota families were forced to leave the villages as they could not bear the atrocity inflicted by Limbu people for the past two years.

 

Flaying the incident, district chapter of FNJ, Press Chautari, Press Union, Revolutionary Journalists Association and Adibasi Journalists Association, in a joint press release, flayed the incident.

It is condemnable incident to picket house of a civilian and to issue death threat to journalist in the name of having different caste and profession, the release said. It has also demanded action against the guilty.

 

Of the accused, Shakti Angbo, 48 has been arrested and search for others is underway, said Binod Silwal, DSP at District Police Office.
