59 Kamlaris yet to be freed from kanchanpur

KANCHANPUR, APR 04 - At least 59 Kamlaris are yet to be freed from the district, said Nepal National Society Welfare Association (NNSWA), an NGO providing services for community development and human rights. “We have submitted details of the girls to the District Administration Office (DAO). The DAO is preparing to rescue the girls after forming a task force,” said programme coordinator of NNSWA, Basanti Shahi. Stakeholders accused the government of not implementing the 10-point agreement made earlier with various NGOs working for the rights and rescue of Kamlaris . “Except for compensating the families of Srijana Chaudhary and Meghi Chaudhary, both of whom were burnt to death while working as Kamlaris in Kathmandu, the government has not implemented other agreements,” said Sulochana Chaudhary, chairperson of the Freed Kamlari Development Forum (FKDF), an NGO working for the rights and rescue of Kamlaris . According to the NNSWA, 1,173 Kamlaris have been freed from the district so far.
