Woman Sentenced for 10 Years for Trafficking Girl

Sankhuwasabha/April 7 The District Court has slapped 10 years imprisonment and 50 thousand rupees fine to a woman on April 6 on charge of forcing a girl into prostitution after trafficking her. Judge Tikaram Upreti issued the verdict convicting Pushpa Rai (BK) of Mangtewa VDC-8 of forcing a 16-year-old girl into prostitution after selling her in Kathmandu. Police had arrested Rai on May 2, 2013 and filed a case against her after the victim filed a complaint against her on April 28, 2013. She was remanded in custody by a district court order on May 27, 2013. Rai had taken the girl to Kathmandu under the pretext of providing her education and taking care of her. The victim's mother married another man after the death of her father.
