The Far Western Federation of Nepali Journalists staged a protest on August 16 against the bill passed by the Far-Western Provincial Assembly on August 12 regarding the broadcasting of Radio, FM and television. Journalists stated that the state government brought the bill to restrain the freedom of the press. On August 16, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Far-Western Committee met the speaker of Far-Western province Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Leader of the Main Opposition Nepali Congress (NC) Parliamentary Party Dr.Ran Bahadur Rawal, Chairman of the Legislative and Provincial Affairs Committee Nepalu Chaudhary and Chief Whip of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Tara Lama Tamang. The federation said that the 22 articles in the bill passed by the state assembly should be amended.
