Speaking at the program, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Banke Dhundiraj Pokharel said that the District Administration Office (DAO) would take a lead role in solving the problems faced because of the open border between Nepal and India. He said that the misunderstandings between the two countries should be settled through discussions, adding that programs like these would also help to clear the misunderstandings between the government and NGOs working in both countries.
SP AK Singh of the Bahraich District Prison Office said that criminal activities like human trafficking, drug trafficking were taking place in the border area because of illiteracy and poverty. He informed that among the 67 Nepali inmates in Bahraich Prison, 27 were held for human trafficking.
SP Bikram Singh of the District Police Office (DPO) said that there were issues because of open border from ages. He was of the opinion that such programs would develop cordial relation between the personnel of both countries.
District president of Federation of Nepali Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) said that a joint forum at the citizen's level should be established to solve the problems faced due to open border.
Dr. Sanat Kumar Sharma speaking on behalf of the Indian civil society said that these programs should take place regularly to solve the problems in the border area. Indian journalist Satya Prakash Mishra, Regional Director of NHRC Murari Kharel, FNJ District Chairperson Shukra Rishi Chaulagain, Keshav Koirala of Maiti Nepal, Advocate Basudev Gyawali among others expressed concern on the beatings, lootings of Nepali people in the border.
Maniram Sharma, Secretary of United Forum for Indo-Nepal Journalist, rights activist Prakash Upadhyaya, Satish Chadra Agrawal of Social Harmony Committee Banke expressed their opinions on the problems caused by open border.
Welcoming the participants of the program, INSEC regional coordinator Bhola Mahat said that the program was organized to minimize the problems faced in the border area and to develop friendly relations between the citizens of both countries living in the border.
