Bijay Limbu, 27, of Sanwa2 has been critically injured after a group of 15 men including police constable Surya Limbu of the District Police Office assaulted him on February 16.
Limbu was taken to the Neuro hospital in Biratnagar after the district hospital referred him there. The victim's wife said that he was being taken to Ganagalal Hospital in Kathmandu after the Neuro Hospital informed that his treatment was not possible in Biratnagar.
According to eye witness Bedhnidhi Paudel, policemen beat him with lathi and kicked him while taking him to the DPO. The policemen also beat up his wife and Dal Bahadur Khimding, Ratna Karki.
The police later released all four persons after one hour. Bijay was taken to the district hospital for treatment by police as he fell seriously ill.
Police Inspector Lok Darshan Thapa said that Limbu is a heart patient. He added that Limbu was subjected to minor assault when he was arrested. "We are gathering information on the incident and those constables involved in the incident," Thapa said.
