Jhapa/ May 5 Ashika Panchkoti, alias Bhumika, 35, of Damak municipality-11 has been critically injured after Tanka Dhakal, 45, of same municipality cut her tongue and nose by a sharp weapon on May 3 for refusing his marriage proposal. The victim is getting treatment at Teaching hospital in Kathmandu while accused Dhakal is at large. The victim, a single woman was living with her daughter after getting divorce from her husband. The two were in a relationship before the incident. A dispute occurred when Bhumika refused his marriage proposal. The victim was attacked with a sharp weapon on the way from her neighbor’s house after she denied his proposal of marriage. She was preparing to leave for gulf country for the employment over which the dispute occured, according to the police. The victim sustained eight stitches to her nose and tongue, said her father Surya Panchkoti. She received initial treatment at Lifeline Hospital in Damak and BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. The victim is undergoing treatment in Teaching Hospital Kathmandu from May 4. Search for the accused in underway, said DSP Rabi Paudel of area police office, Damak and the incident is under investigation. Accused Dhakal is a former regional secretary of Maoist for the constituency number 7 and an active cadre of the party. Meanwhile, women justice forum of the district, issuing a press statement on May 4, condemned the incident. The statement further said that the victim was getting continuous threat from the accused for marriage before the incident regarding which she had filed a complaint at the police. However, police did not take any action, said the press statement. INSEC Condemns Attack on Women INSEC Eastern Regional Office in Biratnagar has issued a press statement on May 5 condemning the incident of attack against a single woman in Jhapa. The statement expressed concern regarding the heinous incident of cutting the nose and tongue of a woman after she denied the marriage proposal by accused Tanka Dhakal, 45. INSEC wished for the early recovery of the woman and demanded the government provide her free treatment with compensation and action against the accused.
