Timber smugglers attack forest workers

A group of timber smugglers attacked a patrol team of forest workers in Saptari on Wednesday night, October 8  which has damaged the windshield of a pick–up van of division One of Rajbiraj office. No human casualties were reported in the incident. After the attack, the patrol team used force and the smugglers finally gave up.  

Forest officials have taken 28 pieces of sawn timber under control which was smuggled from National Forest near Giddhe danda on the border of Saptari and Udayapur. Similarly, one labourer involved in smuggling of timber was arrested along with 14 pieces of timber from Dudhaila Khola in Rupani Municipality-6 on Monday, October 6.

Other professional smugglers are being sought meanwhile the arrested are under the control of Soyambhunath Sub-Divisional Office, Rupni. The activism of forest employees has increased in recent times. A large quantity of timber has been recovered in this process.
