Surnaya Rural Municipality's office in Baitadi padlocked in dispute over rural municipality's centre

The locals have locked the Surnaya rural municipality of Baitadi since Monday evening, October 12 due to a dispute over the centre of rural municipality demanding the construction of a permanent centre in the place where the temporary centre used to be. The temporary centre of the rural municipality is in Rawleshwor Kathya Gowda, but the chairman was planning to shift it forcibly to Pavita. They warned to launch a strong agitation if the demands are not addressed immediately. 

The village centre struggle committee formed under the coordination of local Arjun Madai has been conducting agitation programs since the past. Madai informed that the construction of the village centre in the public building of the school in Pavita of Ward No. 5 cannot be completed while other structures are being constructed in Rawleshwor.

In the past, State Restructuring Commission said the centre will be fixed in the place where the temporary centre is now, so the locals handed their land ownership papers of (1.47 hectares) of land to the rural municipality.

Meanwhile, the rural municipality has stated that the centre will be located at Pavita in the place specified by the executive. Dinesh Prasad Bhat, ward president of Surnaya-4, said that the decision would not be changed as the village council had already made the decision.
