Accused of trafficking arrested after 4 years

Police arrested 52-year-old Tautau Tamang, of Talamarang in Melamchi Municipality-6 from his temporary residence in Gokarneshwor Municipality -5, Kathmandu on October 11 on the charge of trafficking a 17-year-old girl to Bombay, India.

A complaint was lodged against the accused with the help of Shakti group, an organization working against human trafficking, at the District Police Office, Kathmandu on August 20, 2019. It is alleged that the accused sold the victim on April 5, 2016 showing temptations of well-paid job after she was displaced from the earthquake.

The victim was rescued by Shakti Group with the help of Indian Police and was returned to Nepal on July 19, 2019 said Charimaya Tamang, chairperson of Shakti Group.

According to DSP Sapkota of the District Police Office, the accused was arrested by the Bureau of Human Trafficking Investigation and is being investigated by the Kathmandu District Court under the Human Trafficking and Smuggling (Control) Act, 2007 AD.
