A woman in Barju Rural municipality of Sunsari was raped while she was sleeping in her own room at a house. After the incident, her in-laws and rapists involved in a dispute meanwhile the rapist attacked them with sharp weapon that cut off left hand of her 40-year-old mother-in-law Parvati Chaudhary on October 3. After the family members took him under control, it was found out that the rapist was their 22-year-old neighbor Sanjay Mochi.  

Police said that after the incident, the accused mother and father were badly beaten by the victim's brother-in-law and there is need to start the case of incident behavior as well. The case of rape as well as indecent behavior against accused parents’ case has been registered, the investigation is likely move forward.

However, according to the victim, the parents of the perpetrator started beating her brother-in-law after the cobbler was taken out naked and the Chimdi-based Area Police Office arrested the accused and the victim’s brother-in-law who came to the rescue her that night without investigating the cause of the fight. The brother-in-law was released but again arrested on a false charge of indecent exposure, alleging that he had beaten the rapist’s mother

It is alleged that youth involved in the rape was prosecuted for indecent behavior the next day without questioning the victim. The victim also accused the police of delaying the registration of the rape case as some local political activists and ward chairman Binod Chaudhary put pressure on them to reach a compromise saying that the society would be discredited if the incident became public.

Manju Sardar, a social activist in Sunsari, said that the rape case was registered under the Rape Act on October 9, six days after the rape only after public pressure and said that "the victim has nail marks on his arms and chest, she was also stabbed in the genitals during the rape and is bleeding," The government prosecutor's office issued an order for a forensic and medical examination. However, the police have not taken action till October 13.

Chief of the Area Police Office, Chimdi, Baru, Sai Nageshwor Thandar, claimed that no one spoke about the rape during the interrogation and he had sent the report to Duhabi Area Police, which has the authority to prosecute for further investigation and action.
