According to the Deputy Chief of Mechinagar Municipality; Meena Upreti, two youths on a motorcycle attempted to set fire on a government vehicle (No. 1 Jha 172) spraying petrol on the wheels of the vehicle on December 3 near the road section between Dhaijan and Charali on the East-West Highway while she was returning from a meeting.

She said that the Nepal Students' Union (NSU) attempted to obstruct the government vehicles to protest against the arrest of the leader Ram Chandra Poudel in Tanahu. The Jhapa District Working Committee of the NSU has clarified in a press release that there is no truth in the media reports that an attempt was made to burn the deputy chief alive inside the vehicle.
