RUKUM, JUN 05 - The District Court in Rukum has slapped the mother of a six-year-old rape victim with three-month imprisonment for changing her statement in the court in order to protect the perpetrator. A single bench of Judge Hemanta Rawal on Tuesday gave the verdict against the woman from Peugha VDC as she earlier lodged a complaint saying that 33-year-old Kali Bahadur Oli raped her daughter but changed the statement later saying that Oli was innocent. Registrar Lok Bahadur Hamal said the court gave such verdict as she tried to protect the perpetrator even though the medical report and other proofs confirmed the rape. He said such ruling would discourage people to change their statements with ill motive in the court. The court also slapped Oli with 10-year imprisonment as he was convicted in the crime. The convict was also fined to pay Rs 100,000 damages to the victim. Oli, a resident of Peugha-7, took the minor to the nearby field and committed the crime under the influence of alcohol on August 28, 2013.
