Case against cops for abetting jailbirds

RAUTAHAT: Rautahat prison administration today filed a case at the district court against two police personnel on the charge of helping two jailbirds escape last Saturday, on May 31. The case was lodged against senior constable Ganesh Shrestha and constable Gauri Shankar Sah for their alleged involvement on freeing jailbirds Mahammad Javed and Nabin Kumar Yadav while taking them to a private nursing home in Gaur for health check up. Javed was doing time for drug smuggling whereas Yadav was sentenced in an abduction case. However, prison in-charge Assistant Sub-inspector Shankar Shrestha has been given clean cheat and told to join duty after internal investigation, said SP Ramesh Ranjitkar. Though district police formed a three-member investigation panel led by DSP Bhim Dhakal to find the truth, it is yet to bring the truth to the fore. Likewise, mid-western Police Office Hetauda has formed a three member high level investigation team led by Narayani Zonal Police Chief SSP Sarbendra Khanal and initiated its task from Tuesday. SP Nal Prasad Upadhyay and DSP Krishnaji Adhikari also have been included in the panel. Hotelier’s story Rautahat: Adarsha Jaiswal, operator of Makalu Hotel in Gaur said, “I was sleeping at my hotel on May 31 (Saturday) in the daytime. Four persons entered the hotel and asked me to cook meat. Two of them were in police uniform whereas the other two were in plain clothes. They started to drink alcohol. After a while, the plainclothes duo said they would go to Shivawati emporium to bring paint, and asked the remaining two to continue until they returned. But, they didn’t return for two hours. Finally, the policemen rushed out without paying me Rs 3,500, the total bill amount.”
