Less than three months after the appointment, the University of Agriculture and Forest Sciences in Heatuda was padlocked demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Dr Punya Prasad Regmi who was appointed in the position which was vacant for about 14 months by the decision of the Council of Ministers on September 25.
Professors close to the former UML of the university have demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor. They have accused the selection committee of appointing the disputed person based on political bias, ignoring the deserving candidates. Vice-Chancellor is also alleged for his increased political activities in the university.
Vice Chancellor Regmi had appointed Prof. Dr Jay Prakash Dutt in the Faculty of Agriculture and Prof. Dr Hom Bahadur Basnet in the Faculty of Animal Sciences. Dutt, who has been the dean for one term, has been pressured not to be re-appointed by professors close to the former UML.
