OKHALDHUNGA: Okhaldhunga police seized explosives from the rented apartment of Hari Bhandari, who masterminded the Gyan Bahadur Majhi incident in which Majhi, who was supposed to have been murdered, walked alive in the district.
Police had arrested Hari Bhandari on the charge of concealing Gyan Bahadur for months. Police again seized explosives from Bhandari’s rented apartment at Punatar of Palapu VDC a week ago.
Bhandari was freed on bail amount of Rs 15,000 about 25 days ago.
After the explosives were discovered, Bhandari has been held again.
According to Inspector Bhagirath Regmi, police had found the explosives after they raided Bhandari’s apartment in the presence of party representatives, after locals raised the issue of irregularities at Triveni Primary School, where he is head teacher.
Gyan Bahadur told police he fled to Kalebung of India due to fear that the six men accused of abduction would kill him. Three persons, who confessed they murdered 58-year-old Gyan Bahadur Majhi and threw his body in the Koshi River five months ago, were doing time in judicial custody. Majhi, a local of Purnatar, Palapu-8 of the district had gone missing on November 5 last year.
When Majhi walked alive five months after he went missing, three murder accused were freed on April 3.
Police had nabbed Bhandari for hiding Majhi and implicating innocent youths in the murder. Gyan Bahadur was the school management committee Chairman at Bhandari’s school.
Locals accused police of hatching a plot of seizing explosives to defend themselves from departmental action against then Okhaldghunga DSP Govind Bhandari and Inspector Regmi.
Local Bhupal Majhi suspected that police might have avenged itself against Bhandari. Recently transferred Okhaldhunga DSP Dambar Biswokarma said that he was yet to learn the details of the incident.
