Chand-led CPN group called a strike on the Far West on January 23, demanding the release of their arrested leaders and cadres from the government. Though the transport services in Kailali and other districts were affected due to the strike, the police have been sending public vehicles to their destinations by escorting since January 22.

The arrested were the party's central secretariat member and foreign department chief Dharmendra Bastola Kanchan and bureau member Vivek.
