Youth who wrote against police on Facebook taken to Capital

RAJBIRAJ, JUN 19 - The Saptari Police took a youth who posted hate comments against the police on the social networking site Facebook to Kathmandu this morning to face action. The youth, Mohammad Abdul Rahman, of Portaha-1, who was kept in custody for 19 days, was taken to the capital to deposit him before the Kathmandu District Court for action on cyber crime. He was ordered to board a bus to Kathmandu from the temporary traffic police post at Rupani Mod, Rajbiraj-5 at 7.15 pm on Wednesday, Rahman's father, Isarail Miyan, said. Police said Rahman was sent to Kathmandu as only the Kathmandu District Court had the jurisdiction to look into cyber crime cases. Meanwhile, the Appellate Court, Saptari, on Wednesday, in response to a habeas corpus writ Rahman's father Miyan filed against the District Police for illegally detaining his son for 18 days, issued an order in the name of the District Police Office for presenting a written reply along with the detainee. It is said Rehman had posted a comment on his Facebook status regarding the need to bribe police to get back his bike that was seized by the police. He was writing the said comment in response to a local news report that said that the security was improving in the district.
