Kavre,Dalit samuday laai van upbhog bata banchit. POKHARA: More than 250 Dalits in Lahachowk, Kaski have been deprived of using the national forest that lies in the Annapurna Conservation Area Project region. “The sheer discrimination against us in the name of caste in this modern era even just to use the natural resources is a sight of misfortune,” lamented Dalit leader Krishna Sunar of Lahachowk, adding that the others can collect firewood from the forest for free whereas they have to pay a price for it. “We had urged the National Dalit Commission to help bring a halt to this discrimination against us, but all the effort has gone down the drain,” he added. Shyamlal Sunar, chairperson of a committee formed by the Dalits, said, “But for us the forests mean nothing as we cannot use them.” Meanwhile, the District Administration Office has pledged to do the needful to solve this dispute between the locals.
