Local contractors are continuously excavating riverine materials in Machhapuchhre village of Kaski defying the Pokhara High Court's order to stop the illegal excavation. Meanwhile, local youth Gopal Pokharel was allegedly beaten while trying to stop illegal excavations by the contractor Pan Bahadur Chhetri.
Pokhrel's face was injured due to the beating and he has lodged a complaint at the local Ghachok Police Post demanding action against the perpetrator. Stone, ballast, sand and other riverine materials are being excavated from the river banks of Machhapuchhre village under the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).
