VDC secy nabbed red-handed with bribe

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday arrested the Secretary of the Gagalphedi VDC of Kathmandu red-handed while he was receiving bribe from a person. The anti-corruption constitutional body said in a press statement that Secretary Tejraj Aryal received Rs 15,000 as bribe from a person from Banepa Municipality of Kavrepalanchok district. According to the CIAA, Aryal had assured the person that he will provide him/her a paper of property valuation without paying any revenue. For that, he called the person at the Siddhartha Food Land in Anamnagar of Kathmandu and handed him blank, signed and stamped letterhead of his VDC. A CIAA team nabbed him red-handed while taking the bribe today, according to the commission. The national graft watchdog has written to the Local Development Officer of the Kathmandu district asking to suspend Aryal from the position as per Section 19(3) the CIAA Act, 1991.
