KATHMANDU, JUN 22 - The Election Commission on Sunday banned Democracy and Elections Watch-Nepal (DEW-Nepal) from acting as an election observer from all four constituencies for Constitution Assembly (CA) by-election for breaching the election code of conduct. The inspection team appointed by EC reported that the DEW-Nepal was found breaching the code of conducts of electoral observant as per Election Commission Act, 2007. The report submitted by the Chief Election Officer Rishi Prasad Adhikari stated that the vehicle (Ga 1 Cha 7301) used by DEW-Nepal for monitoring the by-election was used for carrying Nepali Congress (NC) cadres at Jamuni VDC of Bardiya district on June 20 and 21. Following the report, the EC decided to stop DEW-Nepal as observant with immediate effect. The sub-clause (2), clause 8 of the Election Commission Act, 2007 states that the EC can scrap authority vested upon any person or organisation held as an observant of the activities related to elections, if such person or organisation is found not following any of the guidelines set by EC.
