Police arrested two persons, a 19-year-old groom and his 46-year-old father of Birgunj Metropolitan City-16, on the charge of being involved in child marriage. The groom got married to a 17-year-old girl in Birgunj-16 on January 24. According to the police, the Parsa District Court has extended the time limit for an investigation into the child marriage case against them by seven days.

The time limit for filing a child marriage complaint is three months. ‘Even though child marriage is very common in the Terai-Madhesh society, there is a problem in taking action when no complaint is received.
