Police arrested a 23-year-old woman, Asmita Ghale, on the charge of infanticide in Pokhara. Accused Ghale gave birth to the child on March 19 and hid inside her cupboard, wrapped with clothes, as the child was apparently born from an illicit relationship. The incident came to light, after the hospital she went to for her treatment reported it to the police.

Police sent the baby's body to the Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences for postmortem to find out whether Ghale killed the newborn or gave birth to a stillborn baby.
