Sudurpashchim, Kailali, Bhajani
Police personnel in Bhajani municipality of the Kailali district in far-western Nepal have exchanged fire with some alleged drug peddlers coming into Nepal from India on Monday evening.
Acting on a tip-off, the Malakheti Area Police Office in the district had deployed a team under the command of DSP Prem Shahi to nab the alleged peddlers.
“But, they had come with spears and pistols, hence we engaged in a fire exchange immediately after meeting them,” Police Inspector Hikmat Bahadur Thapa at the District Police Office says, “First, they opened a round of fire, and we retaliated.”
One Indian national, identified as Bablu Singh from Lakhimpur of Uttar Pradesh, has been injured in the incident. However, the alleged smugglers were successful in fleeing the scene, according to police.
The law enforcers have confiscated a spear and a mobile phone from them.
