Guardians of Rescued Children Arrive in District Headquarters

Lamjung/July 5 The guardians of 15 children, rescued by Kaski police and handed over to Lamjung police, have arrived in the district headquarters on July 4 to be reunited. The children of Singdi village of Pasgaon VDC were rescued by the police at Dandakonak in Kaski on July 3 night as they were being taken to Indians unattended by any guardians. The children reportedly told police that they were heading to India for study. They were handed over to Child Helpline, Kaski and were brought to Child Welfare Commiteee in Lamjung on July 4. Irate at the police action, the children's guardians said that it was their business to send their children to India to study for free as they could not afford to send the children to school. The stakeholders said that though the children might be going to India for good cause, they should not have sent unattended. They added that they were trying to contact the school to verify the children's statement. The children, aged from 5 to 16, had said that they were going to a missionary school in Gonda, India after facilitation of an organization called, "Children Of God". Their guardians said that Joy Prasad Gurung, a local of Singdi and currently teaching at the School was taking the children with him. District Child Welfare Committee suspects some foul intention on the issue. CDO and Committee coordinator Shrawan Kumar Timalsina said that investigation was going on regarding the issue. Child rights officer Nabin Chandra Ghimire said that long journey of the children with none of the parents was indeed suspicious.
