Zero Tolerance Policy against Gender-based Violence: Chief Secretary

Lalitpur/ July 7 Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Lilamani Paudel has stated that the security personnel must adopt the policy of “Zero Tolerance” on gender-based violence with a sensible approach to the issue. Speaking at the program regarding “Government Policy on Gender-based Violence, Status of Implementation and Challenges” jointly organized by the Office of the Prime Minister and Armed Police Force (APF) head office in Kathmandu on July 6, Paudel stressed that the security personnel must take the cases of women violence very seriously and sensitively. He praised the policy adopted by the APF for denying participation in UN Mission, promotion and other opportunities including international trainings to the officers involved in gender-based violence. He further said that such action promotes the reputation and effectiveness of the organizations. Home Secretary, Surya Prasad Silwal commended APF for strictly following the instructions issued by the Home Ministry on the government policy regarding “Zero Tolerance against Gender Violence”. Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Rajuman Singh and APF IGP Kosh Raj Onta stressed that gender-based violence must be listed as a grave and serious human rights violation.
