JHAPA: Ilam Appellate court today slapped life-imprisonment on all three persons convicted in the murder of the journalist Yadav Poudel of Jhapa about two years ago. A joint bench of judges Udaya Prakash Chapagain and Gunaraj Dhungel handed down the sentence to Yubaraj Giri, Phulmaya Dhakal Karki, aka Manju and Somnath Dhakal during a hearing yesterday. About a year ago, Jhapa district court, in a hear-ing over the case had passed the verdict of life imprisonment along with confiscation of all property on only Giri, while ordering a prison term of three years, 1 year and 6 months to Manju, Somnath and Madan Rai respectively. The appellate court has upheld the verdict of the Jhapa district court meted out to Giri and Rai while it has cracked its whip on Manju and Somnath. The Jhapa-based journalist was thrown off the roof of a hotel in Birtamod in April 2012.
