RAUTAHAT: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) held Rautahat Local Development Officer Basanta Kumar Bhandari with Rs 1.2 lakh, allegedly the bribe amount, from his official residence in Gaur today morning. A four-member CIAA team deployed from Central Development Regional office in Hetauda raided Bhandari’s residence and arrested him with Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand in cash. As the money was seized from his cupboard, he was taken under control, said an official. It is learnt that the cash was handed over to Bhandari by Ram Prasad Yadav, proprietor of Rautahat Helpline. Apparently, Yadav informed the CIAA about the illegal money along with the bill numbers. According to a security source, the LDO was caught red-handed with the under-the-table money. It has also been learnt that the scene in which Yadav took the money to Bhandari has been recorded and posted to the CIAA. According to a CIAA source, LDO Bhandari was arrested for interrogation. Bhandari refuted the charge saying the incident was pre-meditated and Yadav of Helpline had been hatching a conspiracy against him. A CIAA official, on condition of anonymity, said the anti-graft body had seized the official documents of Helpline as well. LDO Bhandari will be sent to Kathmandu for further investigation.
