July 20, Jannati Khatun, 32, of Bharatpur VDC has filed a complaint against her husband Shesh Iliyas, 35, at District Police Office on July 20 for expelling her from the house after uttering divorce. She said that as her parents were already dead and no brothers, she was left stranded with her two children. Jannati claims that her husband is doing this to her because he is having an affair. Police said that Jannati had suffered broken hand and leg when Iliyas beat her up in October 2013 adding the District Police Office Jaleshwar had mediated for their reconciliation and her treatment. As per Islamic law, a woman can be divorced if the husband utter the word thrice and can remarry the same woman only after the woman is married to another man for 3 months and 13 days. Jannati says she does not accept the divorce and will not take another man. ASI Rama Thapa of Woman and Children Service Centre said they would call both parties to learn the situation and try to mediate between them if possible otherwise suggesting them to move court.
