Rauthat, Daijo ko nehu ma ghar nikala. Jul 22, A woman was kicked out of her home at Samanpur VDC in Rautahat seven years after she was married for not bringing the dowry agreed upon earlier. Her husband Madan Gupta Baniya and father-in-law Ramjoshi thrashed Sunita Subedi, 25, mercilessly and drove her out of home for failing to bring the dowry as promised seven years ago, on Sunday. Madan had tied the knot with Sunita in 2007. Sunita has two daughters from Madan. Neighbours said that Sunita was chased away from the house. Sunita has registered a case at the Women and Child Service Centre of the police post at Garuda. The case says that Sunita was tortured for the past seven years and her husband and father-in-law had tried to strangle her to death for failing to bring the dowry as promised. “My husband is planning to wed another girl by chasing me away,” Sunita lamented. Sunita is at present sheltering at her parents’ home. She bemoaned that her husband had shown reluctance even to register their marriage, get the citizenship certificate made and register their daughters’ birth. ASI Shivnath Yadav said the police office had issued a letter to the alleged perpetrators to be present at the office.
