Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu, Ward 11

Former British Gurkha soldiers staged a symbolic demonstration in front of the parliament building on July 18 calling on the Nepalese and British governments to meet their demands. During the demonstration, LB Ghising, coordinator of Satyagraha Sangharsh Samiti Nepal, said that Gurkha soldiers have been victims of British discrimination for 207 years. They want the Gurkha British Army to receive the same salary, pension and services as the British Army.

Coordinator Ghising demanded that the government raise their issues as this insult and pain belongs to all Nepalis. Ghising also warned that he would go on a hunger strike in front of the British Prime Minister's Office from July 21 if his demands were not addressed stating that he has been fighting for equality, respect and dignity for 32 years,
