A clash broke out between two parties at the temple premises on July 6 evening after a dispute over the selection of Naki (female priest) at the historic Navadurga Dyochen (Devata Ghar) in Bhaktapur. Dozens were injured in the clash.
Hundreds of supporters from both sides were present at the temple premises since evening as there was a program to hand over the posts of deities including Nakis on Ghantakarna Chaturdashi. According to the agreement, the family of Harigovind Banamala, a resident of Bhaktapur Municipality Ward No. 7, was not selected. However, the family of Krishna Ram Banamala, a resident of Bhaktapur, had filed a case in the Patan High Court alleging that the turn was over.
The clash occurred when the opposition group at the entrance of the temple stopped Krishna Ram's group. The clash was brought under control by the police for some time but no major damage was reported. Even so, there were hundreds of people in opposition until late at night.
