Employees of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) are agitated after the preparations were made to split it into two offices. They are organizing sit-in programs and other non-violent protests for the past five days. The government is going to split the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority into two parts, the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority and the Nepal Air Services Authority.
Currently, all the responsibilities are under authority. However, the bill to divide the NEA into two parts has been passed by the National Assembly and sent to the House of Representatives for further discussion. NEA spokesperson Raj Kumar Chhetri informed that the employees have been holding agitation programs along with the picketing of the office premises demanding to keep the NEA as it is. According to him, one thousand employees working in NEA are in favour of not allowing the NEA to be divided.
The employees have strongly protested saying that some of the points included in the new bill are against the rights and interests of the employees and the authority. Political organizations under NEA have also opposed the new bill. Employees have warned if that their demands will not be met, they will padlock the office of the Director-General.
