Police arrested Madhavi Karki, a 35-year-old resident of Dilasaini Rural Municipality ward no-7, Dhaand on August 23,  on the charge of infanticide. Police reported that Karki gave birth to the newborn child in the cornfield and strangled the baby to death.

According to police, she gave birth to the child on 22nd August and abandoned the infant as soon as it was born. As per the initial investigation, Madhavi became pregnant from an illicit relationship with a 17-year-old male from the same place. The guy who agreed to marry her after she got pregnant is currently absconding. The accused is also a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV) and has a 13-year-old son.  Her husband had left for foreign employment 10 years back and has disappeared since. Her father-in-law reported the incident to the police. According to the Area Police Office Patan, she is now in police custody and further process of filing the case in court is ongoing.
