Nepali Congress district presidents from 23 districts staged a sit-in at the central office in Sanepa on August 24 along with senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel. Nuwakot's Congress president Jagadishwarnarasimha KC said that the sit-in was held demanding to make the list of active members public on the party's website.
The members in sit-in protest are from Ram Chandra Poudel's panel. They have made suspicion that the central office have replaced the name lists of active members submitted by the ward and district committees, with other names.
Ram Chandra Poudel said that everyone has right to know, if they are active members of the party or not. He further added that, the members should be given a chance to check whether their personal information are correct .
They demanded the implementation of the provision of the party's document that allows the General Convention Representative to contest for the post of District Chairperson. They expressed their dis-satisfaction over provision made by the central committee to allow Regional Chairperson to contest for the position of District Chairperson in districts having only one electoral seat.
Currently, there are nine hundred thousand active members in Congress. Former General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula handed over the report to Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba and Leader Poudel on August 23 after resolving the dispute over active membership.
